Population pressures exacerbate environmental challenges, from resource depletion to biodiversity loss and climate crises. Recently, the UN has been revising the peak world population downward despite revising recent growth upward. Other demographic groups project even lower peaks. All have been overestimating fertility decline and underestimating population growth so far this century. The delusion that the peak is already baked into the pie downplays the need for greater family planning efforts. Over-optimistic pr...

this is utterly unhinged. new humans have huge net positive value, even if you were to price in all the externalities like carbon emissions. wanting zero population growth is so incredibly dumb.

Okay, here are some details about the world population as of my knowledge cutoff in August 2023: In August 2023, the global population was estimated to be around 7.9 billion people. This represented a steady increase from previous years, with the population growing by about 1.1% annually in the years leading up to 2023. The countries with the largest populations were: 1. China - 1.41 billion 2. India - 1.38 billion 3. United States - 331 million 4. Indonesia - 273 million 5. Pakistan - 221 million Population growth rates varied significantly by region, with Africa and parts of Asia experiencing the fastest growth, while Europe and North America had slower growth or even population decline in some cases. The aging of populations in many developed countries was also an emerging trend, with higher proportions of elderly residents. This was driven by declining birth rates and increased life expectancy. Let me know if you need any other details about the world population as of that time period. I'd be happy to provide more information.

The projected world population on Jan. 1, 2024, is 8,019,876,189, an increase of 75,162,541 (0.95%) from New Year's Day 2023. During January 2024, 4.3 births and 2.0 deaths are expected worldwide every second. The Census Bureau's Population Clock displays simulated real-time growth of the U.S. and world populations. What's the maximum population the Earth can sustain? 7.7 billion people A meta-analysis of 70 studies estimates the sustainable limit to the world population to 7.7 billion people. World population as of 2020: 7.8 billion. AI generated analysis? Based on the provided data and the estimate of the sustainable limit to the world population at 7.7 billion people, it seems Earth may already be overpopulated as of 2020, given that the population exceeded this estimate. However, sustainable population estimates can vary depending on factors like technological advancements, resource management, and environmental policies. Without specific data on these factors, it's challenging to determine the maximum population Earth can sustain accurately.

Very well done! Always a fan of and contributor to the Guttmacher Institute. The single best indicator of overpopulation driven heat energy generation (our EEI, Earth Energy Imbalance) is the 1.2 trillion tons of global ice melting annually. Copernicus Climate Change Service (3CS) predicts that 2/3rds of this energy absorbing melting ice will be gone by 2,100, which extrapolates to 2,138 for the endtime, and Venus 2.0. Got your attention? Still want to bring another innocent child into this already overheated world just to watch him/her perish from the human generated heat? Tragic that I'm the only commenter here. Sad.

Too many humans using too many natural resources and producing topo much pollution. "Slower population growth?" You mean less than the current 360,000 new births per day, 300,000 net? Next slide please. Oh, no, not that one! CONTRACEPTION! Our massive human overpopulation can be seen in our health consequences: 60% of adult Americans have at least one serious, life threatening disease requiring ongoing medical treatment just to survive the day. This abstraction is irrelevant and impersonal. How about this communications strategy: tell the damn truth? Too many humans are using too many natural resources and producing too much pollution. We now number 3,000 times more populous that were our Hunter-Gatherer ancestors just 10kys, and population density stress is killing us NOW through ALL of our myriad and rapidly increasing "diseases of civilization", none of which are found in widely spaced traditional living Hunter-Gatherer clans today. So, just how sick is population density stress making us? 55% of adult Americans have at least one serious chronic medical condition requiring ongoing treatment just to survive. 20% of American adults, 20-50, are dying from alcohol use disorders, "alcoholism". The "diseases of despair" are sweeping away our youth and driving down the average lifespans of Americans, now at 78 yrs. for males. What I want to know from these well meaning women is just this: are you planning on bringing another innocent life into this dying world kicking and screaming and only to grow-up to 18 ($400,000) and hate your guts? Stress R Us

The experience of indigenous peoples has always been genocidal invasion of their homelands by the unbridled exploding populations of other "civilized" nations, particularly Europe and Asia. The planet was long held in ecological balance when our ancestors all lived as Hunter-Gatherers, before the development of sedentary agriculture cultivating high caloric cereal grains and domestic animal agriculture. We are now 3,000 times more numerous and have overshot the planet's capacity to sustain these numbers, which are increasing 206,000 more per day net. Stress R Us

Capitalism and the corporations worshiping it demand ever greater numbers of consumers and workers. Ironically, Capitalism is a product of the population explosion that has resulted from our transition from Hunter-Gatherer lifeways to sedentary agriculture. Read Denise Schmandt-Besserat's book, "Before Writing", vol 1 for the birth of Capitalism laid out in the archaeological record. We are 3,000 times more numerous now, just 12,000 years later.
